Programs in Schools

WILL POWER PLAY POWER

Our in-schools Shakespeare program provides workshops and residencies designed to meet your needs. Our teachers, all working professionals in the Bay Area theatre community, can supplement your school’s drama program in a variety of ways:

  • Shakespeare in the Classroom
From one-day workshops to semester-long residencies, we provide exciting and accessible experiences for students of all ages and skill levels.

  • Afterschool Shakespeare Classes
A great addition to any school’s afterschool enrichment program, classes allow students to explore Shakespeare’s language, characters and themes through games, exercises, and performing scenes and speeches.

  • Shakespeare Performance
Your school provides the performance space, Marin Shakespeare provides a director, a specially shortened script, and set and costume pieces from our stock. Give your students an opportunity to embody some of the greatest characters ever written.

  • Teacher Training
Workshops are designed for middle and high school teachers looking for new ways to introduce their students to Shakespeare and make Shakespeare fun.

Shakespeare is just one part of a well-rounded theatre arts education. Our sequential, standards-based in-schools drama program includes improvisation, voice and movement, and scene work from contemporary plays. (Formerly called CAST, this program was originally developed under a grant from the California Arts Council.)

  • Drama in the Classroom
Our basic program is a 30-week series of classes that cover improvisation, public speaking, and dramatic performance for students in grades K-8. Our instructors work with classroom teachers to tie drama study to the ongoing classroom curriculum.

  • Afterschool Theatre Classes
Acting, Creative Dramatics, Playwrighting, Voice and Speech, Improvisation, Movement, Stage Combat – focus on one or select a combination. We provide enriching afterschool classes that engage the imagination and build dramatic skills.

  • Performance
Your school provides the performance space, Marin Shakespeare provides a director, script, and set and costume pieces from our stock. Get your students onstage!

We’ll work with you to create a program that fits your needs. The cost for Will Power and Play Power varies according to the number of hours of instruction, number of students, and the school’s ability to provide funding. Past funding sources have included PTA’s, individual student tuition for afterschool classes, and grants.
