Classes for Teenagers

Improvisation: The Roots of Shakespeare's Comedy

An opportunity to play with improvisation and explore your creativity. Shakespearean theatre was inspired partially by the great improvisational theatre of the commedia del'arte movement. In this class we will ignore Hamlet's advice to the players: "And let those that play your clowns speak no more than is set down for them..." and experiment with acting in the moment, opening up to the creative impulse, and always saying "Yes!"

June 18 - 29, 2012
Monday through Fridays from noon to 4 pm
Marin Art & Garden Center, Ross

Tuition: $350

Summer Performance - King John

The art of stage swordplay

Work with a professional director to rehearse and perform Shakespeare's rousing story of the glorious rise of the Plantagenets, full of dramatic characters, exciting battles, and great speeches – plus, you'll learn cool things about English history (and how Shakespeare twists the facts for his own purposes). A rare opportunity to perform an overlooked Shakespeare play that practically no one else knows much about.
