Marin Shakespeare Company in collaboration with the RHE Foundation, is excited to announce Open Access, an initiative that opens our 514 Fourth Street, San Rafael Center for Performing Arts, Education, and Social Justice to artists to develop work, connect with others, or just provide a space to focus, free of charge. 

The doors are open Monday through Thursday, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Artists of all disciplines are invited to reserve various spaces including the atrium, theater, classroom, library, and dressing rooms.

Community will have access to an ever growing list of equipment that currently features the ability to print and soon a mobile studio for recording audition submissions.

Please note that the scope of the work permitted will be limited to non-monetized creative development. Though artists may use the space to further develop work they may be hired for by another company, activities that require others to pay are not permitted.

For example, an artist could use the space to develop a new play with their cast, choreograph and rehearse a new dance piece, or record a voiceover or video audition. However, they could not use the space to hold a ticketed performance, sell their artwork, or teach a paid workshop. Marin Shakespeare Company offers rentals of the venue for these types of events for which a specific date/time is required.

Open Access hopes to play an important role in supporting and nurturing the Bay Area’s artistic communities, by providing a free and accessible space for artists to create, collaborate, and share their work.
