This fresh adaptation, funded in part by the National Endowment for the Arts, promises to ignite the imaginations of young audiences and remind them of the power of great storytelling to transcend time and place.
“We believe student audiences deserve productions of the highest caliber,” says Tracy. “Our goal is to create an experience that’s vibrant, immediate, and unforgettable—a production that not only honors Shakespeare’s work but speaks directly to the next generation, inspiring them to see themselves within these enduring stories.”

Jon Tracy, Adaptor/Director
“In our adaptation of Romeo and Juliet, the youth of Verona seize control of the narrative. Our use of sound and music—everything from Silver Sun Pickups to Idris Elba’s dance tracks—creates a relentless emotional undercurrent. It underscores the turbulence of growing up in a world that expects adult decisions from unprepared hearts. Every beat, every track, every bass drop is a heartbeat, a cry, a call for understanding.
So, why ROMEO / JULIET?
Because this isn’t just a love story. It’s a generational one. A story of what happens when the world fails its young people, and how those young people fight to reclaim their voices. This isn’t a slash. It’s a fracture. A split. A tension. And maybe, just maybe, a doorway to something new.”
