Marin Shakespeare Company presents the fourth annual Shakespeare for Student Audiences performance in our indoor theatre at 514 Fourth Street in San Rafael. Get ready for a hilarious, bilingual take on Shakespeare’s A Comedy of Errors, directed by Bay Area director, dramaturg, scholar, and UC Berkeley theatre professor, Karina Gutiérrez. When the lives of two sets of identical twins who were separated at birth intersect they are in for a wild ride of mistaken identities, romance and reunification. It’s a fun and thoughtful exploration of identity, immigration, forced separation, and belonging that transcends borders and languages.
Performance Runtime: approximately 90 minutes plus a 20-minute Q& A with the actors.
CONTENT ADVISORY: This play is appropriate for most audiences, but does feature some bawdy humor and a courtesan character. Recommended for grades 5 and up.
Tickets: Tickets are $10/person, with discounts available to schools for whom cost is a barrier. Space allowing, you may make any adjustments to ticket numbers until March 15, 2026, when the balance is due. Cancellations after March 15 and no-shows will not be refunded.
Transportation: Students should arrive by bus, carpool or public transportation, no later than 15 minutes prior to the start time of the performance. Marin Shakespeare is pleased to offer transportation funding to school groups of 20+ for whom the cost of transportation may be prohibitive. Please ask us about funding at the time you make your reservation.
If you are coming from Marin or Sonoma, consider the SMART Train. Students (up to 18) ride free and the station is about 2 blocks from the theatre.
We recommend that you confirm your bus reservation or other transportation plan at least a month in advance.
Supervision: We recommend a ratio of one adult to every 20 students.
Optional Program Extensions: Book a pre- or post-show classroom visit with an actor/ teaching artist to discuss the play, and the performance and to explore the text.

About The Tempest: On a mysterious island where magic and humanity intertwine, Prospero conjures a storm that shipwrecks old enemies, compelling everyone to confront past resentments and reimagine their futures. The story weaves themes of forgiveness, redemption, and the delicate balance of power, daring us to consider: can we truly make amends with the past and embrace the promise of transformation? Featuring Bay Area favorite Stacy Ross as Prospero, this bold reimagining breathes fresh life into Shakespeare’s timeless meditation on what it means to forgive and be forgiven.
Performance Runtime: The exact runtime will be announced closer to the performance, but this is a full-length production, so expect a 2 to 2.5-hour performance. There will be a short intermission during the performance and a 30-minute post-show workshop with the actors.
